TuneTag: Impedance-Matched RFID Tag for Long-Range and Reliable Battery-Free Sensing
Published in IEEE Journal of Radio Frequency Identification, 2025
TuneTag is a passive sensing platform built around a custom tag with a novel impedance-matched antenna, alongside a low-complexity algorithm that works with commercial RFID readers and ICs. The algorithm corrects timing and phase inconsistencies to enable robust differential sensing.
- 5x improvement in sensing accuracy and 2.4x extended range over state-of-the-art systems.
- Latency reduced to sub-second levels, a 5x improvement in response time.
- A GUI for near real-time sensor display, and an Augmented Reality smartphone app that overlays live sensor data on the camera feed.
